Artist Statement

My name is Annie. I am a lover of art, all kinds of art, but I adore abstract art. I have a penchant for abstract landscapes, bold colours, block work and hard edged painting. My landscapes are almost always an actual location which creates a connection with the viewer.  I like to develop a feeling within the artwork. Everyone’s feelings will be personal to them, however I want the viewer to be able to associate with it. I would like the viewer to be able to see something that brings back memories of places, people or a time in their life. Art is full of emotions and feelings and I want that to shine in my work.

Art is subjective and everyone will see different things in abstract art, which is one of the things I love about it. It is open to interpretation and there’s always certain elements that appeal to the viewer which will differ from the person next to them.

Painting in a style that doesn't include all the details leaves a lot to the imagination.  It encourages your subconscious to fill in the gaps and foster cognitive and imaginative thinking.  There is a psychological feeling within abstract art where it frees the mind from constraints and allows the viewer to develop their own feelings.

My art journey started at a young age. I have always loved art, studying many forms of art throughout school. I have worked through a number of different genres of art, but they have always been abstract in some form. Through accidentally starting a business (someone wanted to buy a piece of art and the rest is history) it has given me the confidence to show my art to the world and to take it a step further by studying and becoming an Art Therapy Practitioner.  Having recently gained my qualification in Art Therapy, I hope to put my learnings into practice soon and incorporate into my business in some way. Art Therapy has really opened my eyes are to how extremely insightful art can be and how it is a form of healing for many.
